Sunday was my last sermon at the Big Sky Church. Farewells are a part of our life, but we rarely do them well. I took queues from Paul on how one ought to bid farewell.

Paul talks about us having the armor of God - what if he means that we should dress ourselves in the image of God? What if our battle plan isn’t to rush off and fight, but to stand firm?

On Sunday we talked about how God calls us to live a counter-cultural life that is foolish by the standards of the world.

Our group is seeking a preacher/minister that is especially adept and interested in all aspects of church planting. The level of education in our group is high, so a person with at least a Bachelors Degree in biblical or theological studies is preferred. A person with an advanced degree is likely to be an even better fit, though all candidates with a suitable level of education and experience will be given serious consideration.

Collectively, our members possess an extraordinary level of commitment and ministerial gifts and capabilities. You would be hard pressed to find such a talented start-up group anywhere. The “launch team” is already in place. This is a church plant waiting for a visionary leader to guide it. This is a blank slate, free from the bondage of traditionalism. This is a group that loves the Restoration plea, and wants to see how it can be applied in today’s terms.

We have received a commitment from a large congregation in Alabama to assist in providing an appropriate salary commensurate with the selected candidate’s education/experience because our current small size constrains the financial support that we can provide alone. Our goal is to grow to the point where we can be financially self supporting within a few years.

We especially encourage applications from anyone with an interest in vocational ministry, or from those who might like to pursue graduate studies while working as a part-time minister. This is a congregation with the capacity to financially, spiritually, emotionally and ministerially support the right individual. We are willing to develop creative solutions to enable someone to come to our community who can share, work, and grow with us.

Paul tells us in Ephesians that we were once darkness, and now we are light. We are to live as light - exposing darkness and revealing the Son of God. The thing is, most people don’t live in darkness because they love it. Most people live in darkness because they are hiding. Can we show them a better way?

Often preachers have a bad name in the world.  There are all sorts of bad examples of preachers.  With so much going wrong, what is the right role for a preacher.

Things got a little bit tough on Sunday when we discussed what Good News really is.  What is good news to the broken hearts of people in Helena?  How can this little church speak Good News into the lives of this city?  Freely we have received, freely we must give.
